Chugai Pharma Taiwan is continuously devoted to solving social problems and caring for global sustainability.

INTRODUCTION

Chugai Pharma Taiwan continues to engage in social welfare by organizing “First in class, annual Cycling for Charity” events. Besides emphasizing the value of physical and mental well-being through work-life balance and encouraging employees to foster workout habits, the company also proactively fulfills its corporate social responsibilities.

Chugai Pharma Taiwan has initiated “Cycling for Charity” going around Taiwan from 2017, which allows its employees to leave behind the heavy workload, get out of the office, and bond with each other, all while doing charity for society. Chugai Pharma Taiwan arranges a “Charity Donation” on one day of the trip every year to visit local social welfare organizations, listen to the introduction of the organization and demonstrate the company’s support by donating daily necessaries to them. During the past years, Chugai Pharma Taiwan had visited and donated to the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, Senior Citizens Home, Children’s Home, and Orphan Foundation.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

Chugai Pharma Taiwan arranges “Cycling for Charity” annually to encourage employees to value their health. The three-day cycling arrangement is entrusted to Giant Adventure Travel Agency. The company encourages employees to bring their families together and customizes cycling jerseys for all participants. All activity fees are fully sponsored by the company. During the tour, the staff will visit the local social welfare organization and donate daily necessities to them, which fulfills one of the goals of Chugai’s “TOP I 2030” strategy, “Implementing Corporate Social Responsibilities as a Role Model for ESG.”

In addition, when implementing medicine sales bidding, Chugai Pharma Taiwan responds to selection projects of the Procurement Selection Committee, including manufacturers’ CSR indicators. “Cycling for Charity” is the first innovative activity in the pharmaceutical industry. The Selection Committee attaches great importance to this activity as not only a positive initiative for social influence but also the encouragement for enterprises to pay attention to staffs’ health and care for vulnerable groups. Cycling for Charity initiatives always add extra points to the sales performance of Chugai Pharma Taiwan every year.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

Chugai Pharma Taiwan adopts innovative ideas to do charity, such as the three-day “Annual Cycling for Charity”, which attracts the attention and curiosity of the public. Through their inquiries, Chugai Pharma Taiwan propagates the idea of giving back to society, caring for vulnerable groups, sets an example for others to follow, and hopes to influence others to value social welfare. On the other hand, Chugai Pharma Taiwan sets up a “Share Your Love” donation box in the Taipei office, and the company will donate the same amount as its staff’s donation. It is worth mentioning that the staff donations are getting higher year by year, even with a growth rate of 30% annually. The concept of supporting vulnerable groups with concrete actions has become the DNA of Chugai’s staffs.

FUTURE DIRECTION

Chugai Pharma Taiwan is continuously devoted to solving social problems and caring for global sustainability. In the future, the company hopes to collaborate with the pharmaceutical industry or different media by extending from single-point events to linear and comprehensive public welfare activities with diversity to attract more attention and participation from the public.

Chugai Pharma Taiwan promises to continue to implement SDG goals, including annual cycling for charity, office donation box, tree planting, beach cleaning, coral planting family days, adoption of sidewalk trees with colorful flowers and night lights, daily massage for employees by Eden’s visually impaired therapists, animal-friendly milk for supporting smallholder farming in the office pantry, etc. Chugai Pharma Taiwan will keep developing these public welfare activities and combine them with Chugai’s longterm and short-term goals to create a sustainable society together.
