INTRODUCTION

Kampung Aren Empowered and Disability-Friendly, a village that supports the development of inclusive life by empowering communities with the participation of individuals with disabilities in their social life. The three aspects of environmental, economic and social are strategies to complete the potential and develop the potential of Kampung Aren. Since 2017, this programme has been initiated by Pupuk Kaltim and INBIS Permata Bunda with the aim of increasing the equality of people with disabilities in the community, increasing awareness and concern for disability, as well as providing assistance for disabilities to be independent, empowered and able to empower others. With the development of a village that empowers and is disablefriendly, this can become a model to be replicated in other areas in Indonesia.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

The Company’s CSR team and INBIS collaborate to unite the vision to make Kampung Aren more empowered and disability friendly. This programme is carried out by involving residents starting from problems mapping, implementing them in the field and becoming part of the evaluation of the programme. The strategies carried out in the field utilises human relations approach, the provision of infrastructure, and the use of technology. This approach strategy refers to the focus to be developed in Aren Village, namely environmental, economic and social aspects. Another strategy is to involve individuals with disabilities by providing a proportional role. The overall strategy is the basis for the village development roadmap by implementing it into 10 gold points for the development of Kampung Aren. In order to overcome this, the Company’s CSR team and INBIS Permata Bunda involved other stakeholders such as the government, academics, and expert teams, in hopes to raise awareness to reduce inequality, provide equal opportunities for people with disabilities, realise an independent and empowered community, and the creation of an inclusive life.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

On a social standpoint, the Company improved the quality and living conditions of community and increased the awareness of disabilities while also increasing self-capacity and selfreliance of the community. Not only that, an increase in the number of new business lines saw an increased in income for individuals with disabilities which is a total revenue of Rp. 2,006,051,200 in 2019. Additionally, the availability of Open Green Space which provides residences with an environmentally friendly space. An Early Warning System is integrated and this is to provide water level details to residences through their mobile phones, in order for them to be more prepared for floods. To add on to that, there was an increase in citizen participation in protecting and preserving the environment with an improve in sanitation and waste management. The Company received the PLATINUM - Indonesian SDGs Award 2017 & 2018 by the Ministry of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia and also the Alignment for the Disability Concern and Enforcement in 2019 which was awarded by the Governor of East Kalimantan.

FUTURE DIRECTION

The future direction for the Company is to continue conducting environment and potential based businesses from the village while strengthening the education and ecological village model. Additionally, the Company will look into the use of applied technology in agriculture and the use of digital technology to increase awareness, market expansion and economic improve. Lastly, the replication of Aren village, by using it as a role model as an empowered and disable-friendly village which can be applied in many other villages around Indonesia.
Pupuk Kaltim is a subsidiary of PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company. The Company’s main business is to produce and sell ammonia, urea and NPK fertiliser with domestic and foreign market segments. The Company was officially established on December 7, 1977 and is located in Bontang, East Kalimantan.
