CHADATIP CHUTRAKUL

CEO, Siam Piwat Company Limited

INTRODUCTION

Under Mrs. Chutrakul’s leadership, Siam Piwat Group’s business has focused on two essential concepts: ‘co-creation’, or the involvement of people from multiple sectors to play a role in the shaping of the group’s destinations; and, ‘creating shared value for sustainability’, or the creating of a business model that enables all stakeholders to benefit from the success of the property. This approach has brought benefits to society at large that become self-propagating as a part of the property’s business model. For example, Siam Center has become the birthplace of many world-class Thai designers; ICONCRAFT at ICONSIAM is a zone dedicated for craftsmen to showcase their creations; and SOOKSIAM at ICONSIAM is the entire ground floor of the development that is populated with small craftsmen from around Thailand.

Mrs. Chadatip fosters social responsibility activities in three areas.

People
Special talent, those with disabilities and the underprivileged, and broader community members are offered premium space on very preferential terms, and are also given support in terms of commercial know-how on how to manage their business, as well as in terms of marketing, such as in merchandising, product and packaging design, and customer data management.

Communities and Society
Broader benefits to local communities are always integrated into the property that go beyond enrolling them to share in the commercial success of a property. For example, with the building of ICONSIAM, for the first time in Bangkok, a major retail development also enabled the development of transport infrastructure to avoid the congestion. The support given resulted in safety and access improvement of multiple public piers along the river as well as the building of the Gold Line Monorail as the first mass transit system in the area.

Environment
She has driven important environmental initiatives as well as placing a high priority on public communication and the adoption of new habits by consumers. Her ZERO WASTE PROGRAMS promote waste segregation and plastic usage optimisation; and she has driven ENERGY SAVING and the REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GASES by investing in state-of-the-art systems, as well as the installation of solar cell systems.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

These are some of the results of Mrs. Chutrakul’s initiatives. People

• The Company supported many Thai designers and professionals in the fashion industry, many of whom have or are currently achieving growing recognition around the globe.
• ICONCRAFT and ECOTOPIA have supported over 1,000 brands and SMEs to develop their businesses. Some of the vendors have expanded abroad after displaying at the properties for only two years.
• In less than two years, SOOKSIAM has become a complete commercial ecosystem that supports local economies through its supply chain. Artisans, business owners, and community enterprises have captured opportunities to generate incomes and become internationally recognised among tourists and even expand their business overseas.

COMMUNITIES AND SOCIETY

• The communities around each of our properties have shown real improvement in prosperity and their quality of life.
• Tens of thousands of commuters today use the skywalk built near our properties at Patumwan intersection, to move across busy roads and intersections
• The Klongsan community around ICONSIAM has seen their transport infrastructure significantly improved, and the addition of the Gold Line Monorail has transformed the ease and speed with which residents of the area can access multiple schools and hospitals within the district, daily.

ENVIRONMENT

• Enormous energy savings have been realised: for example, the Solar Rooftop at ICONSIAM reduces electricity consumption by the equivalent of the entire electricity used in its parking lighting.
• A reusable water system reduces water consumption that is approximately 160,000 units/year.
• Siam Discovery promotes environmental awareness in many of its areas almost as an experiential classroom.
