INTRODUCTION
Mr. Joseph N.C. Huang, the chairman of E.SUN Commercial Bank, Ltd. (“E.SUN Bank”), the main subsidiary of E.SUN Financial Holding Co., Ltd. (“E.SUN FHC”). Prior to the current position, he was appointed as president and CEO of E.SUN FHC from 2008 to the first half of 2020. He is also the director of E.SUN FHC and Chairman of E.SUN Bank (China) Co., Ltd. Originally an engineering major, Mr. Huang received his MBA from Baruch College, City University of New York in 1992 and an executive management diploma from Harvard University in 2003. Based on the three long-term strategies: Local Development, Asia Expansion, and Financial Innovation, Mr. Huang is committed to lead E.SUN from good to great, from local to regional, and from physical to digital. He has received several major awards and recognitions, including Best CEO in Asia Pacific from The Asian Banker, Best CEO in Asia from The Asset for 5 consecutive years, and Best CEO in Taiwan from Institutional Investor for 3 times. To add on to that, Mr. Huang is also the CEO of E.SUN Volunteer & Social Welfare Foundation and a CSR committee member at E.SUN FHC.Mr. Huang deeply believes that business management is about creating values and making the world a better place. Additionally, Mr. Huang actively incorporates ESG into strategies and business development, while devoting resources into corporate governance, public interests, environmental sustainability, customer interest, and employee care.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Since 2016, E.SUN has followed the action guidelines of the United Nations’ SDGs and identified 8 aspects of SDGs that are most relevant to E.SUN’s corporate strategies and business operations, including quality education and decent work and economic growth. To support domestic sustainable development and fulfill E.SUN’s corporate social responsibilities, E.SUN also followed Taiwan’s Sustainable Development Goals. Some achievements in recent year are as follows.• E.SUN cooperated with customers to launch E.SUN
Golden Seeds Project, which aims to improve reading
environments for children in remote areas by building
libraries. As of 2019, over 150 libraries were built, 330
thousand books were provided, and 96 thousand children
benefited from this project. And, according to Social Value
International (SVI) in 2019, the Social Return on Investment
(SROI) of this project was 28.7 times.
• E.SUN is the first bank in Taiwan that issues zero-carbon credit cards. 3.6 million zero carbon credit cards have been issued in 2019.
• Listed in Top 5% in Corporate Governance Evaluation by Taiwan Stock Exchange for the 6th consecutive year.
• The only Taiwanese FHC listed in Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (“DJSI”) for 6 consecutive years, ranked first in Asia and third globally in the banking industry.
• Constituent of MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes since 2014, and received AA in MSCI ESG Ratings, which is the best in Taiwan.
