Green Multiples @ Royal Cliff Project
Royal Cliff Hotels Group
INTRODUCTION
The Green Multiples @ Royal Cliff Project details Royal Cliff’s commitment to the conservation of natural resources by reusing various items within the organisation that helps maximise cost-effectiveness and help in lessening environmental pollution. The Company’s guests and business partners are also encouraged to be part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Five initiatives are introduced in the project which is overseen by different departments. Each year, the committee looks through and revaluates the success of each initiative. The five initiatives are:1. Wastewater Treatment Facility
2. Keycard Holder Return
3. Biogas Production
4. Food Waste Recycling for Fertilizer
5. Reuse of Laundry Bags, Bed Linens, Towels, Flowers and Papers
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
The project encourages the Royal Cliff team to think outside the box and to use creative ways to reuse the same product in a variety of ways. This has effectively reduced expenses while helping environmental conservation. The project has then attracted and motivated guests, business partners and employees who are regularly made aware of these CSR initiatives and encouraged to participate. It integrates the Company’s drive to take socially responsible actions when it comes to its wastes and usage of natural resources to the Company’s core business of hospitality through creating public awareness, encouraging its large clientele to conserve resources, partnering with eco-friendly suppliers and the development and subsequent operation of a large-scale wastewater treatment plant to help combat the harmful effects of water pollution. Efforts to reduce the quantity of waste material include separating and recycling waste materials in the guest rooms as well as recycling all the water in the whole resort.ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Royal Cliff has collected years of data for each of the initiative’s progress. Its wastewater treatment plant has presented a sustainable long-term solution to water scarcity in the area. The water treatment process helps produce clean reusable water and reduces water loss induced through water pollution. The “United Analyst and Engineering Consultant Co. Ltd”(UAE) has certified that the treated water passes regulatory standard and is safe for public consumption. Hotel wastes have been significantly lessened which has helped reduce the amount of discarded materials that are sent to landfills.Through reusing various materials, consumption of some of the hotels’ resources has been greatly lessened which has helped reduce pollution set off from the production process of harvesting new raw materials and has allowed each product to be used to its fullest extent. Composting food waste has yielded a large number of organic fertilizers which has been used for landscaping. Thousands of key card holders have been returned so far.
FUTURE DIRECTION
The project’s various initiatives bear no extra cost to the organisation making them very sustainable for the future. The wastewater treatment facility has been able to withstand the test of time and continues to be in operation today. The process for implementing the initiatives is clear, specific and concise making them easy to be passed down to the new staff who will also learn and implement them. A manual for each initiative will be constantly updated and will be used as a standard guideline for all.Royal Cliff also plans to add another initiative in the Green Multiples @ Royal Cliff project which is to gather beverage boxes and donate these to charitable organisations such as the Volunteers Foundation of the Thai Red Cross who will use these to create roofs for people suffering from natural disasters. Unused desktop calendars will also be donated to the Pattaya Redemptorist School for the Blind which will then be created into braille books for the visually impaired.
