Environmental Management and Circular Management Implementation

Linyuan Advanced Materials Technology Co., Ltd.

INTRODUCTION

Faced by increasingly demanding international environment protection standards, the Company has been committed and engaged in the carbon black business with the core vision of “harmonic co-existence with the environment and sustaining growth for the community.” By focusing on energy saving, pollution control, water resources, the practice of less carbon emission and pollution discharge and water recycling, it has balanced the economy development with environmental protection and the Company is leading the way to show their customers and stakeholders how to achieve a circular economy.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

The Company adopted three strategies in order to improve the environment. The first strategy is to reduce carbon emissions, by optimising air pure-heater efficiency to recover waste heat and reduce fuel consumption. This improvement project aims to improve fuel consumption and carbon black granulation quality in order to reduce the overall air pollution. The second strategy is pollution control, to renew filter bags to reduce the emission of granular pollutants. Also, equipping oil tanks with oil and gas collection system to recover high thermal waste gas and reduce the escape of volatile organic compounds. Lastly, water recycling by collecting rainwater and process the waste water into the storm water interception pool to reuse them after being treated. The removal of bottlenecks hampering the waste water recovery and treatment plant operation along with rainwater and sewage ducts renewal in order to improve waste water recycling.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

The Company invested a total of TWD510 million from 1994 to 2019 into energy saving, carbon reduction, innovation, pollution prevention and many more to embrace United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From 2016 to 2019, the Company consumed up to 689,000 ton of oil with potential pollution to the environment while making high-value carbon black, raising the unit fuel consumption from 50.5% to 53% which improved the carbon black production efficiency. The outcome of up to 2.629 million tons of steam with 50.3% generating up to 38.494 million kWh of electricity which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 127,000 Taiwanese residents for a month. The remaining 49.7% of the steam were sold to neighboring factories to maximise the benefits of circular economy. Additionally, the amount of recycled water accounts for up to 10% of the total processed water consumed and the reuse of waste water was up to 50%.

FUTURE DIRECTION

The Company is set to increase the ratio of heat energy recovered against manufacturing process steam output, to improve power factor for equipments and invest in upgrading waste heat boilers, dust collection systems and other air pollution control equipment. The Corporate Social Responsibility Promotion Technical Committee set up by the Environmental Health and Safety Center of CSRC Group in 2020 is set to practice the environmental safety specifications of individual countries and promote the vision of circular economy. The short term plan of the Company is to improve waste recycling for zero landfilling and initiate the water balance project to recycle more waste water. The Company’s medium and long term plan is to improve energy saving and carbon reduction, to reduce 30% GHG emissions by 2030 and to improve the power generated by the co-generation plant. Lastly, the Company will continue its efforts to balance the economic development and the protection of the environment by building up a circular economy with minimal pollution and emissions and to create sustainable value for the black gold industry chain.
Linyuan Advanced Materials Technology Co., Ltd. (LAMT), a subsidiary of the CSRC Group, is the only carbon black producer in Taiwan and is committed to protecting the environment, recycling the economy and sustaining green life while engaging in the global carbon black market under the brand Continental Carbon.
