INTRODUCTION
The Company aspires to become the best brand in green financing. In 2012, the Company became a pioneer and retrofitted the head office building, making it the first old building in Taiwan to obtain EEWH Diamond Certification which is the highest award for green buildings. In recent years, the Company has retrofitted 25 old buildings across Taiwan, which have passed on to obtain the same honour. The Company protects the Earth with educational initiatives, speaks up for Nature, and makes change happen, establishing venues for eco-education to raise widespread awareness of environmental protection. The Company aligns itself with the global trends, and tirelessly exerts its influence in the financial supply chain.FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
Supported by successive chairpersons and presidents, the Company has combined its core financial business with environmental sustainability, and set the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 50% in 2050 compared to 2005. By assembling the Environmental Sustainability Task Force under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee, the Company has gradually reduced carbon emissions from its 72 old buildings across Taiwan and obtained EEWH Diamond Certification. The Company has also expanded financial influence by advancing environmental protection through eco-education. Top management, including the chairperson and president, directly supervise the progress of all CSR endeavors through internal platforms, devise relevant KPI indicators, and organise incentive measures for environmental protection and energy conservation. This culture of corporate sustainability inspires employees and society to work towards a greener world side by side.ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
The Company is ranked first for the number of green buildings in Taiwan; as of the end of April 2020, 25 of 72 old buildings across Taiwan have obtained EEWH Diamond Certification issued by the Ministry of the Interior. The Company has also installed solar power systems on the rooftop of 10 buildings across Taiwan, the most in the financial industry, reducing GHG emissions by 2,772 metric tons annually. GHG emissions for banks in 2019 decreased by 4,929 metric tons of CO2e compared to 2012 and this is the equivalent to the carbon emissions generated from electricity use by 2,465 households every year, generating an average of NT$7.42 million in benefits for society. Lastly in terms of green finance and eco-education promotion, the Company organised a total of 88 eco-education courses, visits, and campaign events with a total of 4,367 participants between 2015 and 2019.FUTURE DIRECTION
The Company is the only enterprise in Asia that has achieved leadership level recognition by the CDP (formerly known as Carbon Disclosure Project) for two consecutive years, distinguishing the company as a leader in climate change governance. Looking forward, the company will uphold development strategies for sustainable business, continue to implement energy conservation and carbon reduction, and promote eco-education to become the number one brand in green finance. The Company combines its core financial business to offer various green financing projects. It thereby fosters green energy and low carbon economic and industrial development, and contributes to environmental sustainability of the Earth.
