INTRODUCTION
Apple Daily Charitable Foundation launched the Apple Bursaries Scheme in 1996. The Scheme provides direct financial support to primary, secondary and university students to broaden their views and enhance their exposure through participating in extracurricular activities. Apple Bursaries Scheme may reduce financial pressure of students. The Scheme not only is for student’s learning purposes such as tutoring and purchasing textbooks, but also for their extra-curricular purposes such as participating in leisure courses and study tours. The scheme provided bursaries totalling HK$0.8 million to a total of 325 primary, secondary and university students last year.
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
Apple Bursaries Scheme had established comprehensive assessment guidelines. The guidelines consist of assessment of student’s family income, family background, academic achievement and conduct. They help us to assess each application and decide all bursary recipients.Apple Daily Charitable Foundation and Apple Bursaries Scheme work close with Apple Daily by regularly publishing columns attracting donations from readers and promoting our charitable programmes to increase our public exposure. The Foundation had established online donation service, which has become a popular channel for readers to make donations. We sincerely thank our donors’ generous support. Without their support, we could not provide our charity programmes continuously.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
In 1996, the Foundation launched the Apple Bursaries Scheme, which provides direct financial support to students from primary, secondary and university students to broaden their views and enhance their exposure through participating in extra-curricular activities. The Foundation provides Bursaries Scheme donating over HK$58 million to help over 19,000 students who are in need of financial assistance to finish education. The scheme provided bursaries totaling HK$0.8 million to a total of 325 primary and secondary school students as well as undergraduates last year.Apart from providing financial support, the Foundation established the “Next Digital Volunteer Team” comprising employees from Next Digital, their families, beneficiaries, bursaries recipients and the general public, which proactively reach out and serve the community. During the last year, the Foundation has organised a number of voluntary activities, including festival celebration with people in need and the elderly and home visits for the underprivileged families.
FUTURE DIRECTION
In the future, Apple Daily Charitable Foundation will take a big stride forward on charity programmes, be committed to assisting our community, misfortune students and families, improving their standard of living and dignity. Throughout different channels and opportunities to publicise the Foundation’s vision, concerted efforts will be made forward so that the community becomes better.
Apple Daily Charitable Foundation serves by providing emergency assistance, medical assistance, social welfare project’s support, bursaries supporting schemes, festive celebration projects and winter warm action projects. Particularly, the Foundation has been donating over HK$400 million for 700,000 people encountering misfortune or calamity since 1995. The Foundation also provides Bursaries Scheme donating over HK$58 million to help over 19,000 students who are in need of financial assistance to finish education.
