Communities are involved in all the stages of tourism management, since planning until implementation in order to create a social culture namely togetherness or Gotong Royong.
INTRODUCTION
PT Badak NGL has consistently played an active role in community development through CSR programs known as COMDEV (Community Development). Currently, Comdev PT Badak NGL program is increasingly aimed at creating self-reliance and empowerment of both economic and social society. We empower local youth who have been unemployed and dropped out of school to manage the natural potential in Bontang Kuala, they called Coastal Creative Community (MASKAPEI) and together we develop a Comdev program by preserving the environmental in Bontang Kuala, Bontang, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The form of the program is to integrated tourism tour which aims to support the environmental conservation (nature and culture) as well as provide economic benefits to society in Bontang Kuala. In addition, visitors can adopt mangroves and then plant it at the designated location in Belanda River and learn on how to transplant coral reef with reef cage method.FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
CSR of PT Badak NGL focuses on four pillars: Empowerment Program, Capacity Building Program, Infrastructure Program, and Charity Program. In line with the Company’s role as a world-class company, character building and skilled human resources are keys to its success. PT Badak NGL adopts the same philosophy in its efforts to develop human capital in the communities, helping empower individuals in these communities to become independent and self-sufficient in their lives. The key lies in achieving environmental excellence has been the creation of shared values. In planning and implementing its community development programs, PT Badak NGL involves local community as well as non-governmental organisations, relevant business enterprises, higher learning institutions, and government agencies.To that end, PT Badak NGL carries out a range of community empowerment programs by supporting home-scale industries, providing seed capital, developing skills through training in respective fields, teaching how to plan and organize work properly, instilling high work ethics, and helping them grow their businesses.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Bontang Kuala Ecotourism initiated by PT Badak NGL and MASKAPEI becomes one of popular tourism in Bontang. It has an impact to the growth of new economic actors in Bontang City, as well as the development of local people’s economy through tourism development activities in Bontang Kuala. In addition to that, 74 Hectare Mangrove forests in Belanda River conserved, 54.250 coral reef transplanted, the number of visitor to Bontang Kuala Ecotourism in 2017 reached 2164 visitors, Group’s omset IDR 12.000.000/month, Group’s assets more than IDR 228.364.000 and Community Satisfaction Index (IKM) = 3,27 (A). Furthermore, Bontang Kuala Ecotourism has the values of education to change a people’s behavior to have awareness, responsibility, and commitment to environmental conservation. Forest of Kalimantan is one of the lungs of the world. So we taught the communities to love our nature because it gives us life. PT Badak NGL will continue to encourage people to conserve mangroves and coral reef transplants. As well as Bontang Kuala Ecotourism aims to create ecologically sustainable environment and preserved the socio-cultural values of local communities in Bontang Kuala. Also, it is one of our efforts to support our government program to continue planting trees for a better live and our future generation.
PT Badak NGL is a producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It was established on 26 November 1974 as a limited liability company. PT Badak NGL is headquartered in Jakarta, with a sole production facility located in the Municipality of Bontang, Province of East Kalimantan, Republic of Indonesia. PT Badak NGL is a non-profit entity, whose assets are fully owned by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, under the Ministry of Finance.
