INTRODUCTION
Post to the identification of the minimal prospects of learning of the English language to children in rural areas, this initiative was developed with a goal of providing such opportunities via the conduction of free English classes for those who are eager to learn and improve nevertheless who are disadvantaged. Therefore this project was piloted in 2016 with the provision of this opportunity to the less fortunate children of the company’s under privileged customers in Sri Lanka, and has currently been able to serve over 400 children. The project was initiated with a strong vision of being able to advance the country’s future generation, providing opportunities to these children of accessing in to global environments, developing them in being the future leaders of tomorrow.
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
Experienced and qualified teachers are hired by the company who will be involved with teaching students from various levels with a goal of bringing them up to the desired standards. Each student’s standard or level is closely evaluated via the extension of tests and examinations, which is used as a tool of identifying whom to pay more attention to. Also the students are put through a practical session to develop their communication and presentation skills. This free service is currently provided to students starting from the 6th grade and will be continued until the student passes on to the 10th grade, thereby collating enough time to build a strong relationship and genuinely assist the student in reaching at the ultimate desired level. This project intends at attaining at the corporate mission in being a responsible corporate entity in the industry, thereby being a unique initiation for the company where extended support and senses of encouragement is provided to Kanrich’s customer base.ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
The different initiatives taken via this project has assisted Kanrich Finance in many ways to pave the way for a brighter future for these underprivileged children. The students have been directly impacted via this initiation through the improvement of the language in terms of speaking, reading and writing skills, thereby displaying an enhancement across an overall literacy of the English language. In addition, increasing of examination results to an average of 75% has also been a highlighting encounter of the Kanrich Thaksalawa programme, embarking upon a great service extension to the nation’s society.FUTURE DIRECTION
Kanrich Finance holds a great deal of direction for the future of the Kanrich Thaksalawa project. The company plans to organize debates, short story and essay competitions among the study centers which are in the operation pipeline and has an aim of creating healthy competition and a driver of creativity among the students. The students will be exposed to role plays and other training activities from which they will receive invaluable feedback relating to their performance. This is expected to generate greater opportunities for these students in the improvement of their speaking skills which is clearly is an important factor in learning of a language.As an initiation of expansion, Kanrich also has made provisions as a second phase of the project in providing learning opportunities for a further 1800 children via the implementation of 50 study centers across the country within the year 2017. Further, in incorporating a sense of innovation, Kanrich also has ideas in the provision of a mobile library to the students in view of further improving their reading and understanding skills effectively. The ultimate goal of this project is to create One Million future leaders from the rural community by 2025.
