INTRODUCTION

In 2014, to mark the 30th anniversary of the ASE Group, an NT$3 billion (US$100 million) Environmental Conservation Fund was created to promote programs in support of environmental protection efforts in Taiwan. The fund would be managed by the ASECEF and allocated appropriately over 30 years.

“The ASE Group has its humble beginnings in Kaohsiung, Taiwan where its first semiconductor assembly production facility was established in 1984. In 1997, the ASE Cultural and Educational Foundation (ASECEF) was established to participate actively in promoting the arts, culture and education.

The globalization of the ASE Group has not blurred the Taiwanese identity of ASE, and in commemoration of the ASE Group’s 30th anniversary in 2014, the company established an NT$3 billion (US$100 million) Environmental Conservation Fund to support environmental protection efforts in Taiwan. Taiwan is an island with finite resources, and as a corporate citizen, we ought to do our part on conservation and reducing harmful impacts to the environment.”

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

As a leader in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, ASE’s success is not only measured by its achievement in its organizational growth and expansion, but also by its role and the impact in community participation and environmental protection.

The fund would focus on programs to promote environmental education and sponsorship, enhance environmental sustainability and minimize harmful environmental impact.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

Since the establishment of the fund in 2014, ASE has disbursed more than NT$200 million in support of environmental conservation programs which involved more than 1,200 participants who volunteered over 11,000 hours. Approximately 60 schools and 230,000 students also benefited from the program. The fund was also used to reforest over 75 hectares of land with the planting of 90,000 native trees.

FUTURE DIRECTION

Moving forward, the programs supported by the ASE30 Environmental Conservation Fund will be carefully selected to align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in September 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.

The ASE Group management and its employees are determined to take the lead and responsibility to put words into action for a more sustainable future.
