Its business is linked to relevant social issues via innovative approaches allowing both the community and environment to win. Their core values, i.e. inspiring excellence, unyielding integrity, and true compassion, resonate deeply with its initiative towards social and tourism development. Two projects are worth mentioning in their pursuits. The first of which is the Livelihood and Employment Assistance Program (LEAP), which RWM has launched to provide training and employment for the less privileged members of the community. And secondly, the Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney (PUJ) Awards is a unique program that combines a restoration effort to sustain the artistic legacy of the Philippine jeepneys, and improve the livelihood of jeepney drivers in Psay City.
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
LEAPIn partnership with the local government, LEAP is an integrated learning program combining value enrichment and on-the-job training to prepare trainees for employment. Some of those who have completed the program are given the opportunity to work for RWM.
PUJ
The PUJ Awards that uses the restoration of iconic Philippine jeepneys to promote tourism and the arts while improving drivers’ livelihoods. Its three main components for development cover: the jeepney, the jeepney driver and the jeepney association.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Facilitating on-the-job training for Pasay City out-of-school youths since 2011, LEAP has produced 128 trainees and hired 57 individuals, 33 of which are still employed by RWM to date. The PUJ Awards program has modified a total of 23 jeepneys and trained 30 individuals to become tourist drivers since it began in 2012. The PUJ provides chances for artists and students to express the celebration of the nation’s heritage, it revitalizes the jeepney as a medium of creative expression for the Filipino culture, it becomes a tourist attraction in itself especially for those in the airport area, and it helps improve the livelihood of jeepney drivers and operators by making the jeepneys more attractive, fun to ride and popular among passengers.
FUTURE DIRECTION
By partnering with local government units and non-government organisations, RWM has made these programs more effective and sustainable in order to reach its goal of holistic corporate citizenship. RMW will continue to sustain the LEAP program training incoming out-of-school youths, and to champion the heritage of the nation with the PUJ program to in the name of social and tourism development.
