With the concerted efforts of E.SUN World MasterCard customers, E.SUN, and E.SUN volunteers, 125 libraries have been constructed from 2007 to 2017 in 19 counties and cities across Taiwan, bringing change to over 60,000 children.
INTRODUCTION
Care for children in remote areas has always been a long-term commitment of the E.SUN Volunteer Foundation. E.SUN hope to provide these children with an environment where they may learn and grow in joy and happiness. Therefore, E.SUN decided to initiate E.SUN Golden Seed Project and improve the reading environments of children in elementary schools in remote areas or those with limited resources by building heart-warming, comfortable E.SUN Libraries. E.SUN World MasterCard is in line with E.SUN Golden Seed Project, the first world MasterCard with charitable function, featuring innovative approaches to linking the two ends of an M-shaped society. For every purchase made by the card, E.SUN’s VIP customers can simultaneously aid children living in remote regions, with 0.3% of every card consumption donate to the charity fund to improve liberies’ hardware and software equipment.
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
E.SUN is the only Taiwanese bank that is listed in DJSI in 4 consecutive years (since 2014). Besides, E.SUN is also the only financial institution who gets an AA rating from MSCI ESG. Since 2015, E.SUN also became signatory of Equator Principals, an association that is dedicated to sustainable lending.It is E.SUN’s vision since its establishment in 1992: E.SUN wants to be the best in overall performance, and the most respected bank in Taiwan. E.SUN strategically leverages its strength in finance to fulfilling CSR and to make positive changes to the world. Example of E.SUN’s long term commitment is the “Golden Seeds Project”. E.SUN works together with its VIP credit card holders to donate certain percentage of consumption to a dedicated fund that contributes to building libraries in remote elementary schools. In 10 years, more than 125 libraries have been built and have benefited thousands of students by giving them access to knowledge. E.SUN will continue to build more links with CSR in its business and create a better world.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Currently the total number of active E.SUN World MasterCard is over 150 thousand cards, the highest among Taiwan Infinite card market. According to the internal survey by E.SUN World MasterCard customers, over 70% of VIP customers applied for card because of supporting E.SUN Golden Seed Project. Instead of attracting customers by discount and cash back incentive, E.SUN co works with customers to put great effort on improving the education in remote areas, which matches more customers’ concept. With the completion of E.SUN libraries one after another, E.SUN Golden Seed Project has acquired recognition from increasing numbers of VIP customers.FUTURE DIRECTION
With the concerted efforts of E.SUN World MasterCard customers, E.SUN, and E.SUN volunteers, 125 libraries have been constructed from 2007 to 2017 in 19 counties and cities across Taiwan, bringing change to over 60,000 children. Schools benefited from E.SUN Golden Seed Project also extend these advantages to achieve significant reading achievement. For example, 7 schools with the help of E.SUN Golden Seed Project have been honoured with the award of “best reader” by Ministry of Education, as well as 10 teachers won the “reading promotion awards’ by Ministry of Education. Therefore, in a thanksgiving press conference held in February 2016 on behalf of E.SUN library, we expressed our gratitude toward our VIP customers and announced our determination to build another 100 E.SUN libraries.
