To encourage exchange between academia and industries and shorten the distance between learning and practical experience, E.SUN has held the E.SUN Hackathon since 2016. It was the first hackathon in Taiwan to be organized by a financial institution and co-organized by Data Science in Taiwan Conference.

INTRODUCTION

One organization needs to make the transformation when it is strong and to find the “second growth engine”. Currently, E.SUN has been quite strong in credit card, wealth management, and loan, and we started to develop in digital banking business. In the long run, the idea and vision has been supported by employees, and the support becomes an important internal stability, which can allow E.SUN to demonstrate the agility to confront changes of the environment, especially in the digitalization. This is the biggest advantage of E.SUN. E.SUN is very committed in providing proper training for the employee within the organization or through external cooperation, so that employees are not intimidated by changes. Employees are fully aware of strategies and directions of the company. The stability is one biggest force that help sustain digital transformation and lead to sustainability.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

E.SUN is the only Taiwanese bank that is listed in DJSI in 4 consecutive years (since 2014). Besides, E.SUN is also the only financial institution who gets an AA rating from MSCI ESG. Since 2015, E.SUN also became signatory of Equator Principals, an association that is dedicated to sustainable lending.

It is E.SUN’s vision since its establishment in 1992: E.SUN wants to be the best in overall performance, and the most respected bank in Taiwan. E.SUN strategically leverages its strength in finance to fulfilling CSR and to make positive changes to the world. Example of E.SUN’s long term commitment is the “Golden Seeds Project”. E.SUN works together with its VIP credit card holders to donate certain percentage of consumption to a dedicated fund that contributes to building libraries in remote elementary schools. In 10 years, more than 125 libraries have been built and have benefited thousands of students by giving them access to knowledge. E.SUN will continue to build more links with CSR in its business and create a better world.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

To encourage exchange between academia and industries and shorten the distance between learning and practical experience, E.SUN has held the E.SUN Hackathon since 2016. It was the first hackathon in Taiwan to be organized by a financial institution and co-organized by Data Science in Taiwan Conference. IBM Taiwan was the sole partner in technology. A total of 5,000 students participated in the event. The panel of judges consisted of academics and industry experts. A professional team of E.SUN managers was also part of the panel. E.SUN aims to inspire creativity in young students and lay a solid foundation for the development of FinTech in Taiwan.

FUTURE DIRECTION

E.SUN follows a 3i strategy, Innovation, Integration, and Influence. It promotes corporate social responsibility on an ongoing basis by making a long-term commitment and taking a systematic approach to combine core competencies in financial services.
