INTRODUCTION
As “Isuzu” is the name of the river in Japan, the Isuzu Group initiated a new CSR activity on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the business in Thailand in 2012, in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, called the “Isuzu Gives Water…for Life” project for the schools in various provinces facing the clean drinking water problems — both water shortage and contaminated water. This project provides clean drinking water to those schools by installing groundwater well drilling equipments and constructing water station building with the standard groundwater quality treatment system as well as hygienic landscape improvement. The clean drinking water produced at those schools will be beneficial for not only students and teachers but also those living in nearby communities.
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
According to the Groundwater Resources Department (GRD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, more than 11,000 schools in Thailand are facing clean drinking water problems. GRD will prioritise the necessity of those schools. From there, the Isuzu working team together with GRD will survey the actual situation at the target schools in each province and select those facing the most severe circumstances. It takes 2 months from the time of survey to the completion of system construction. The total construction expenses are borne by 18 companies in the Isuzu Group and Isuzu dealers in each province.Then, the both teams will hold the training session on the clean drinking water system utilisation and maintenance for the community who will benefit from this system. Upon which Isuzu will host the system delivery ceremony at the school with the attendance of GRD high-ranking officers, Isuzu Group management and staff, teachers, students, community leaders, villagers and mass media representatives. A luncheon and entertainment by famous celebrities will also be arranged to make it the memorable day for the schools and their neighbourhood.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
This project will not only improve the quality of life of students and teachers but also nearby community dwellers. It helps relieve the water scarcity in the target areas as well as reduce the water and sanitation-related diseases. Furthermore, the clean drinking water system will enable the schools to earn income from selling the drinking water produced by the new system to surrounding communities.There is wide-ranging news coverage of this project on media and social media as they have seen the Isuzu’s strong determination and commitment in solving the “clean drinking water” problems for schools and students.
FUTURE DIRECTION

The “Isuzu Gives Water…for Life” is the long-term project that the Isuzu Group has determined to continuously carry out until no school with clean water problems exists in Thailand.
