AAROGYAM – Comprehensive Healthcare

DLF Foundation

The project is implemented in a multi-pronged way including Awareness Generation, Capacity Building, Integration of Health Services and Service Provisions that all work towards Improvement in Health Status

INTRODUCTION

The goal of the project is to improve the health status of the targeted population by providing health services and building local capacity, attitude and knowledge on health issues. The project was selected because it was felt that there was no health facility in the vicinity. Lack of qualified medical practitioners, high incidence of Anaemia and prevalence of vector borne diseases has made DLF Foundation feel the need and benefits of such a project. DLF Foundation started the health interventions with a three-pronged strategy, viz.
  • PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE: Intensive awareness activities throughout the year depending on the seasonality of diseases and on general health management, Special fumigation drives to check spread of vector-borne diseases, Cancer Awareness cum screening camps, and Developing wellness profile of the population through regular check-ups;
  • CLINICAL SERVICES: Through Primary Health Centers equipped with diagnostic kit, Multi-speciality camps, Mobile Medicare Vans, Eye care camps and Telemedicine;
  • REFERRAL SERVICES: For those requiring in-hospital treatment.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

DLF believes in inclusive growth of the population which will only be possible when the marginalised population around the real-estate development sites also have access to good quality of life. One of the important parameters is access to healthcare. DLF Foundation, the philanthropic arm of DLF Group of companies, therefore, has been undertaking social projects so that inclusive growth can be taken forward.

Firstly, a geographical location is identified after which an in-depth need based assessment is done. Assessment issues and loopholes are then analysed and subsequently a project implementation plan is drafted and operation strategies are developed. The project is implemented in a multi-pronged way including Awareness Generation, Capacity Building, Integration of Health Services and Service Provisions that all work towards Improvement in Health Status. The foundation engages with the existing medical functionaries by building their capacities to ensure sustained impact. Along with that, associated factors are also taken into account like reducing morbidity through facilitating regular health check-ups, providing purified drinking water units, emphasising on menstrual hygiene, managing solid waste and linking it to income generation, etc.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

Achievements include: 90% of reported malaria cases are treated at DLF PHC, 90% of reported dengue cases are treated at DLF PHC, 75% of identified TB cases at DLF PHC are cured, 80% of the population practicing hygienic practices like hand washing, proper water storage, menstrual hygiene etc., 8% and 95% of pregnant women went for 3 Ante-Natal Check-ups and 3 Post Natal Check-ups respectively, Linkages established with govt. health functionaries for immunization and other government health schemes, and 85-90% reduction in prevalence of Malnutrition and Anemia in the population.

The impact was not possible without the holistic approach to implementation focusing not only on clinical services but awareness generation, sanitation and hygiene and capacity building i.e. to improve the health conditions in the village it was very important to strategize implementation in a multi-pronged way.

FUTURE DIRECTION

With the tremendous response and further need the DLF Foundation has received, it will adopt more villages to implement its programmes. Work for 3 villages has already been started. Telemedicine, Integrated Solid Waste Management project and all women micro-enterprise will be expanded to all the villages under the programme. The project plans to make these villages technologically equipped and smart villages that observes green practices, provides better employment opportunities and has an advanced electronic/digital information system that is easily accessible to everyone. The project has also taken into account the urban underprivileged section under its wing. Works to set up 6 wellness clinics and 9 Mobile Medicare vans have already started; 2 of these clinics are fully solar powered and are running successfully as well. The clinics will hold specialty camps every month to cater a wider population on specialties like audiometry, healthy heart and dental. Special Vaccination and immunization drives will also be done regularly
