INTRODUCTION

Led by Group Chief Executive and Managing Director, Professor Dato’ Michael Tio believes that that CSR begins at home and has built an business empire with many elements such as a full facility gym, a day care centre for staff to send their kids, lounges for staff to relax, management and company trips, a honesty corner, a spa and many more facilities that is created to further elevate the employees happiness and confidence.

For instance, PKT’s innovative Anak Belajar Ibu Bekerja (ABIB) program is uniquely tailored in giving opportunity to housewives to work at their convenience. Career Days and Educational Tours for higher learning institutions are the elements that have created a very sustainable CSR program, with the belief that if you give a man fish you feed him for a day, but if you teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. Other programs include Career Day for Facebook fans to come and seek job opportunities from our customers and clients with job matching done by our human resource team, and the Smart Trucker Program to motivate fresh graduates to work 4 years as a trucker with wages ranging from RM4000 to RM5000 with career progression guaranteed after the 4 years.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

PKT has undergone 2 transformation programs. The company transformation and employee transformation respectively which 4 visions had been penned out during this transformations: i) The Wawasan 60:40 to capture revenue ratio between Automotive (60%) and Non-Automotive (40%) segment by the year 2017. Non-Automotive will be driven primarily by FMCG sector, ii) The Wawasan ASEAN 30 to obtain revenue contribution from Automotive logistics of 30 % by countries outside Malaysia by the year 2016, iii) Wawasan 1B is to reach a revenue of RM1 billion by 2015, and iv) finally with all this in place, the Wawasan 5m5, to attain 5 million square feet of warehousing space. In line with these visions, emphasis lies on CSR beginning at home with many built-in elements investing in, and empowering, its employees.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

This re-affirms PKT’s principle that profits are not solely kept for stakeholders but given back to society and staff. Dato’ Michael Tio is a social media savvy CEO and has made Facebook compulsory at work, transforming PKT into the most desirable workplace for Gen-Y employees. On top of that, not many employers will ever dare to include their staff’s health as a KPI, which PKT boldly took on as its responsibility by introducing numerous healthy activities and campaigns in the work place.

Having successfully hacked the logistics industry, PKT conceptualized their One Logistics Hub with modern green warehouses named The Ship, The Waves and The Lighthouse along Kesas Highway in Shah Alam. The Lighthouse is the state-of-the-art showcase of what warehouses of the future should be, and has been recently certified GBI Gold rating.

FUTURE DIRECTION

With the vision of achieving RM1 billion by 2015, PKT is positioning themselves to be the biggest logistics company in Malaysia and most progressive logistics company in the ASEAN region.
