Last Donor Standing

Helping Hand Group

Last Donor Standing took the sector by storm, easily surpassing previous outcomes (from other fund raising methods) of one or two sales of a specific auction item. Six, eight, or even ten items were sold with each sale generating a donation for a charity or CSR project.

INTRODUCTION

With 19 years’ experience with charities and fundraising, the Helping Hand Group seeks to create a new and fresh approach in the charity auction sector. Given the high penetration of live (from stage) and silent auctions, the management focused on fund raising activities that would generate the highest return to charities/CSR projects, whilst keeping an element of fun and engagement. Management used their extensive knowledge to establish key concepts that would not only appeal to clients (who need to sign off as Last Donor Standing at their events), but more importantly, the end participant – the guests at events.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

Management spent four months creating, developing and refining and then putting final touches on the development of Last Donor Standing. This was to ensure that the project aligned perfectly with the core ideals of the Helping Hand Group in terms of no-cost to clients, able to raise significant sums for charity and CSR projects and finally, good financial outcomes for the business.

Given the 19 years as industry leader, there was a high-level of trust among clients worldwide. Once management had developed, tested and released the final model to the market, the events/accounts team would be given the go ahead to incorporate Last Donor Standing into events. The project is unique as it is a fun and engaging way to raise funds for charity and CSR projects.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

It is very easy in this business to have tangible results and evaluate its success – high take up rate by clients, amount of purchases in the project, positive outcomes for charity and CSR projects in addition to funds that would have been raised from Live and Silent Auctions (separate from Last Donor Standing).

Last Donor Standing took the sector by storm, easily surpassing previous outcomes (from other fund raising methods) of one or two sales of a specific auction item. Six, eight, or even ten items were sold with each sale generating a donation for a charity or CSR project. The best successes have been 8 sales at an event in Hong Kong, benefiting Surgery for Children in Cambodia, and 10 sales at an event in Australia, seeking to find a cure for Spinal Cord Injuries.

FUTURE DIRECTION

Helping Hand Group has created a fund raising method with great sustainability. Celebrities, sports personalities and skilled auctioneers were invited to conduct Last Donor Standing, leading to high engagement and entertainment for guests. This led to profitable outcomes for charity/CSR partners, opening the door for future events in the following years.

Whilst the business of the Helping Hand Group is currently focussed entirely on CSR and charity, the success of the Last Donor Standing project has generated plans for possible expansion to new and exciting business options.
