#Green24
AirAsia Berhad
AirAsia has successfully implemented few initiatives on fuel efficiency that have helped reduce nearly 23,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2015 alone. Part of the initiatives were to identify pillars of support that the airline will be focusing on and these include Environmental Sustainability, Fuel Efficiency, Marine Conservation.
INTRODUCTION
Initiated in 2015 as part of the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility throughout the Asean region, #GREEN24 is a climate awareness movement to educate and promote climate action. The purpose of the #GREEN24 movement is to create tangible impact by inspiring action throughout communities across the region to promote climate action at home, at workplaces, cities and countries. AirAsia has identified climate change awareness as one of the causes that the organisation will support as a long term commitment to raise the profile of climate change effects, especially across the Asean Region. Internally at AirAsia, the organisation has been taking proactive steps to reduce carbon footprint, and now have taken a step forward to reach out to the community to combat climate change together. AirAsia is an established brand and using its own platform to create tangible impact by inspiring action to the community, colleagues, customers and friends.FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
TAirAsia has been looking into how to reduce carbon footprint in the airline’s operations. The airline has successfully implemented few initiatives on fuel efficiency that have helped reduce nearly 23,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2015 alone. Apart from other internal efforts, AirAsia has taken a step forward to educate and promote climate action to the community. Part of the initiatives were to identify pillars of support that the airline will be focusing on and these include Environmental Sustainability, Fuel Efficiency and Marine Conservation. Activities to promote climate action were planned throughout the year and are executed across all AirAsia group’s offices across the region.ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Our various initiatives have helped us to make steady impact in our operations, especially in our fuel efficiency program. In a year, we have reduced at least 23,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and we hope that the fuel efficiency program will be adapted groupwide. We have also become the world’s first airline to operate the Airbus A320 with Sharklet wingtips, which helps to save up to 15% fuel per annum, which reduces more carbon emission.Apart from that our ongoing internal initiatives such as green procurement where we purchase only FSC certified printing paper in the office, reduction of plastic wares, recycling programs on board our flights have also encouraged all our staff to take on the message of practicing environmentally-sustainable habits in the workplace.
We hope that with the ongoing campaign, the achievements and impact from the #GREEN4 movement will continue to grow and make a bigger environmental change for the future.
FUTURE DIRECTION
#GREEN24 will continue its efforts in educating and promoting climate change awareness throughout Asean through our brand visibility. #GREEN24 is a commitment for at least the next five years, and moving forward, we will come up with a long-term plan on ensuring our operations are environmentally sustainable, and bring the climate change awareness agenda to the forefront in Asean and beyond.
