The Darma Mandiri or Economics Programme targets areas around the project site where the people are lowly skilled with a low education level. Therefore, most of them can’t be employed by Darma Henwa. Under the programme, an embroidery machine was provided to a workshop run by teenagers from the Forum Komunikasi Pemuda Indonesia (FKPI) in the sub-district of Kintap, near the Asam-Asam Coal Project site in South of Kalimantan. With the embroidery machine, the FKPI teenagers can earn an income by taking orders from the local government to sew the logo of the Tnah Laut Regency government in South of Kalimantan. The programme also provides rice seeds for the community in the Bengalon Coal Project site in East Kalimantan.ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

One such business set up as a direct result of the programme is the production of logos for Darma Henwa’s uniforms. In this case, as the project initiator, Darma Henwa is also the project customer as well as stakeholder of the business. Darma Henwa places an order with the company from the local community and provides feedbacks on the quality of products. To ensure the sustainability of the programme, Darma Henwa’s CSR team assists in conducting a market survey to find potential customers. Then, Darma Henwa provides the special training on embroidery technology which includes how to operate the machine. After the teenagers have fully mastered the technology and the processes, Darma Henwa will give them the machine for free.
