Project Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
INTRODUCTION
Tsingshan Industry has developed the “ETERNAL” sustainable roadmap with a mission to create lifelong stainless steel and build a greener future. Eco-friendliness and low carbon emissions are key pillars in achieving the company's sustainability objectives. The two main goals that Tsingshan expects to achieve are creating green, technological, and ecological garden-style industrial parks and carrying out various biodiversity conservation practices. In addition, the company is committed to achieving the carbon neutrality target for 2050 and creating full lifecycle climate friendly parks.FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
Tsingshan integrates ESG principles into its corporate management, establishing a top-down, clearly defined sustainable development management framework led by the board of directors. This structure ensures the effective execution of the company’s sustainable development strategies. Tsingshan places significant emphasis on four key aspects for its eco-friendly industrial parks: land reclamation, water recycling, waste utilization, and emission monitoring. By 2024, the company aims to achieve ISO 14001 certification for 100% of its tenet companies across both industrial parks. In addition, Tsingshan’s biodiversity initiatives include coral transplantation, mangrove planting, forest and marine conservation, as well as biodiversity park and habitat conservation. In terms of climate-friendly parks, Tsingshan is dedicated to establishing a comprehensive carbon reduction chain in its parks, spanning the entire product lifecycle from energy transition and low-carbon clusters to low-carbon facilities, low-carbon technologies, and resource recycling. To support this initiative, the company has planned multiple wind, solar and hydropower projects to promote the transition to clean energy.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Tsingshan engages in coral reef transplantation and protection, mangrove planting, mine vegetation restoration, and the conservation of valuable wildlife habitats to promote biodiversity protection in surrounding communities. In 2023, the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) placed approximately 1,200 coral substrates in two coral reef reserves designated by the Indonesian government. Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) transplanted coral seedlings at 12 coral transplantation sites covering a total area of 9,000 ㎡. Additionally, in the same year, Tsingshan planted a total of 24,300 mangrove trees across both industrial parks. Furthermore, IMIP, in collaboration with its partners, achieved a total of 1,138 hectares of land reclamation. By the end of 2023, IWIP’s total afforestation area had reached 240,743 m². IMIP also initiated the Tonkean Macaque Habitat Conservation Campaign together with volunteers and organizations to protect the precious endemic wildlife of Sulawesi.
In addition to its planting initiatives, Tsingshan is making significant investments in the construction of clean energy projects such as solar, hydro and wind power stations, to reduce carbon emissions. At the end of 2023, Tsingshan has planned to construct PV power generation in phases with a total installed capacity of 3GW. For instance, the Phase I of REPT BATTERO’s rooftop solar PV generated approximately 588.90 MWh of electricity, resulting in a reduction of approximately 335.85 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.
In terms of wind power projects, IWIP is actively developing wind power generation with a planned capacity of 300 MW and an anticipated annual electricity generation of approximately 800 million kWh. Additionally, Tsingshan is planning two hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 1460 MW. Tsingshan has also established a high-quality new energy mining truck base in Fujian, China, and produced and sold 63 new energy mining trucks. The company plans to produce and sell 1,000 trucks in 2024 as well.
FUTURE DIRECTION
