Coretronic Corporation
Project Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
INTRODUCTION
Coretronic has been devoted to providing the education market with its visual solutions for a long time. In 2016, Coretronic launched the “Light Pioneer” project, which sequentially implemented stages titled “High-tech Adventure”, “Digital Interactive Classroom”, “Future Light Camp 1.0” and “Future Light Camp 2.0” at rural elementary schools in Miaoli County.By leveraging its core products and collaborating with local universities and customers, the project aims to bridge the digital divide and educational inequality caused by urban-rural disparities. Coretronic strives to balance the programming education resources in rural areas, inspire children’s interests in programming learning, teach them critical thinking and reasoning skills, enhance their logical abilities, and actively respond to the United Nations’ SDGs, specifically, SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY
To eliminate the digital divide, Coretronic has implemented the aforementioned four stages to this project sequentially. To begin with, the “High-tech Adventure” stage wherein Coretornic invited students and teachers from rural elementary schools to visit Coretronic. These students and teachers can not only acquire the latest information and knowledge about advanced technology and related products, but also fly drones in simulation mode, use a DIY VR smart headset, and visit the “Green Roof” to enhance their environmental awareness. For the “Digital Interactive Classroom” stage, Coretornic built these classrooms that are equipped with an ultra-short-throw laser projector, projection film, and IR pens in rural elementary schools to enhance the digital teaching ability of teachers and the learning motivation of students.
The “Future Light Camp 1.0: Coretornic held Future Light Camps 1.0” stage was conducted in rural elementary schools with cooperation from the local university, the company made good use of all devices in Digital Interactive Classrooms to teach rural students basic and advanced programming language, VR smart headset and Rainbow Gun assembly methods, and shared environmental protection knowledge.
Finally is the “Future Light Camp 2.0” stage. Coretornic volunteers and their families, along with students in the local university received 10 hours of training before organizing three consecutive coding camps for fourth- to sixth-grade students. Educational board games were first used to spark interest in coding in children. Abstract and difficult coding concepts such as sequence, instruction debugging, loop, conditional judgment, and function were woven into the games to ease learning while playing. Finally, the children were guided to complete the coding class for the first semester of their first year in junior high in advance through a problem-oriented computer programming learning course.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
By the end of 2022, Coretronic managed to invite 30 rural schools to join “High-Tech Adventure”, built 31 Digital Interactive Classrooms, and held 16 “Future Light Camps 1.0 and 2.0”. The company has also invested over NTD5.6 million while 992 volunteers spent 6,898 hours helping 3,320 rural students and teachers in 33 rural schools to accomplish this project. The company was also able to help the local university win a subsidy of NTD1.565 million for the 3rd consecutive year from the Ministry of Education for the USR Hub Promotion.Through experiencing high-tech products and sharing feedback publically, students can not only broaden their horizons but build their self-confidence and orally express themselves. With Digital Interactive Classrooms, teachers are able to create various teaching methods, so as to significantly increase the learning interests and efficiencies of students. Besides that, after joining Future Light Camps 1.0 and 2.0, students are eager to show off their work and share what they have learned from the camp with their parents immediately.
FUTURE DIRECTION
In the future, Coretronic will invite its clients to replicate this camp and organize it in regions beyond Miaoli County, expanding its social influence and benefiting more areas. The company has plans to soon embark on a new project that focuses on expanding the application of programming languages it teaches into the field of robotics. Most important of all, Coretronic will be continually dedicated to discovering and evoking the potential of students, helping them cultivate their professional skills, and empowering them to achieve their dreams.
