INTRODUCTION
Shuang-Lang (Paul) Peng is a seasoned tech industry professional with over 30 years of experience, specialising in a variety of fields across the display industry. He has actively advocated integration and resources sharing of the industry chain and linked corporate sustainable development closely with core operational strategies to pursue sustainable targets. Peng helped establish AUO’s first overseas manufacturing facility which expanded the operating scale of AUO. During his tenure, Peng successfully forged alliances with major customers to jointly invest in module plants, deployed globally, and increased overseas shipment outlets. He also steered the management team to successfully achieve technology upgrades and product differentiation.With the belief of “Go Beyond CSR, Create Shared Values”, Peng boosted AUO’s CSR transformation by establishing a dedicated CSR unit and operated the CSR Committee to direct the AUO sustainability development and reshape the AUO CSR culture so that all managers and employees can practice and participate in CSR. Under the operations of the CSR Committee, AUO focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that can utilise AUO’s advantages and define the three key axes of Environment (environmental sustainability), People (inclusive growth), and Society (agile innovation), which are AUO’s 2025 sustainability goals. In environmental sustainability, Peng signed support for the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) initiative and led AUO to respond to the spirit of the Paris agreement by setting science-based targets and continue to work actively with suppliers and partners to form alliances on the climate issue and the circular economy. For agile innovation, Peng led AUO to actively adjust product strategies and make progress on AI applications and product value-adding. For inclusive growth, Peng set up the AUO Foundation to realise the AUO green solution and sustainability vision.
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT
Under the leadership of Peng and the AUO CSR Committee, AUO continues to shine in the six aspects of corporate governance, environmental sustainability, popular science education, cultural preservation, social engagement, and a friendly workplace. To focus AUO’s efforts on SDGs, AUO works with stakeholders through their core technologies to build a partnership for mutual growth and sharing between the enterprise and society in three sustainable themes which include environmental, people, and society.In environmental sustainability, Peng signed support for the Task task force on climate-related financial disclosures (TCFD) and led AUO to respond to the spirit of the Paris Agreement by setting science-based targets and continuing to work actively with suppliers and partners to form alliances on the reduction in carbon emission and water usage and develop a circular economy. To expand sustainable power to the value chain, Peng also actively develop AUO’s solar business and assist the development of renewable energy regulations to accelerate Taiwan’s energy transition. He found the AUO Envirotech to promote sustainable technology to external services. To extend AUO’s core technology and exert corporate influence, Peng led AUO to promote science and culture education by education facilities established.
Peng also co-initiated the first University-Industry Collaborations in Taiwan, which integrates social resources from industry, academia, and government, to simultaneously solve the problem of enterprise talent gap and student learning gap. For agile innovation, Peng led AUO to actively adjust product strategies and make progress on AI applications and product value-adding, creating smart living and smart cities and helping with the transformation of other industries. For inclusive growth, Peng set up the AUO Foundation to realise the AUO green solution and sustainability vision through the AUO employee volunteering system. With core missions being “protecting natural ecology, improving the quality of life, promoting environmental education and engaging in social welfare” to make a positive contribution to society.
