“We created PJB Community Academy Program because the program is in line with Indonesia Government’s Goals. The goals were “Energy Diversification Acceleration Program 10.000 MW first phase” that will be immediately continued with second and third phases.”

INTRODUCTION

PJB Community Academy is a vocational education scholarships (D1) for underprivileged high school students (SMA/SMK/MA) who are living around the PJB’s power plants. PJB Community Academy was inaugurated by Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Nuh, DEA on Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 at PENS campus. The inauguration was marked by monument signing, witnessed by Production Director of PJB, Muljo Adji and PENS Director, Ir. Dadet Pramadihanto, M.Eng., Ph. D.

We created PJB Community Academy Program because the program is in line with Indonesia Government’s Goals. The goals were “Energy Diversification Acceleration Program 10.000 MW first phase” that will be immediately continued with second and third phases. Besides, Indonesia government had a target to build 35 Giga Watt Power Plant. To fulfill the skilled employee needs, especially who are well-trained about Power Generation, PJB tried to support it by creating PJB Community Academy.

So, what makes PJB Community Academy program become special? PJB Community Academy as the one and only in Indonesia that provides skilled workforce in Electricity Business, especially for poor people. We empowered unskilled people who were from low class economy to become skilled employee. Then, the alumni of PJB Community Academy are given the opportunity to select a career of their choice, or pursue higher education. But, PT PJB through its subsidiary, PJBS and MKP, gave the opportunity by opening job recruitment for all PJB Community Academy graduated students.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

In managing PJB Community Academy, Tertiary Education General Directorate, under Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 212/P/2012 regarding Implementation of Study program provider universities, appointing Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya (PENS) to act as Provider University for PT PJB. On August 16th, 2012, MoU signing regarding PJB Community Academy establishment between PJB and PENS were performed, that later continued with Cooperation Agreement signing on September 13th, 2012.

The study syllabus is formulated altogether with PJB and PENS. The students are obligated to finish their 40 credits study within 2 semesters, with composition in every semester attending study process at PENS campus for four months and field work at PJB’s Power Plants for two months. The lecturers consist of PENS lecturers and PJB employee’s instructor that holds appropriate competency as required. Technically, PJB Community Academy program is integrated with PT PJB’s business line that providing electricity through Power Generation, Construction, Installation, Operation & Maintenance of Electrical power generation. We developed people to understand how to operate the machine in Power Generation, how to produce electricity, how to maintain some machine to operate well, and all things that focused on Power Generation’s complexity. Then, PT PJB through its subsidiary, PJBS and MKP, gave the opportunity by opening job recruitment for all PJB Community Academy graduated students.

FUTURE DIRECTION

We try to develop our program by adding content about renewable energy in PJB Community Academy’s curriculum study. Why do we plan add a renewable energy study because our company has focused on Renewable Energy Technology stated in our Long-Term Plan 2017-2021 Document. We hope our CSR Program, PJB Community Academy, are in line with PJB’s Long term plan. So, we hope that PJB Community Academy can create some workforces who understand about renewable energy power plant.
PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali (PJB) is subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero). PT PJB has established at October 3rd 1995. At the beginning, PJB conducted electricity supply business. But, along with the dynamics of the business world and market growing demands, PJB also expands the businesses area into: Power Plant Engineering Procurement and Construction, Power Plant operation and maintenance, and other businesses related to optimize company’s potential.
