Poor sanitation, water and hygiene can have serious repercussions on healthcare, education and the economy of the country. Of the 1.1 billion people in the world who defecate in the open, 59% live in India, 67% of rural Indian households still do not have access to proper sanitation facilities. Inadequate sanitation facilities causes India economic losses of US$53.8 billion a year.

  • Provide sanitation facilities for Girl children in schools in local neighborhood community
  • Promote and drive bevioural change initiative among students and community on good hygiene practice
  • Achieve 100% sanitation in Government schools by providing Infrastructure support in building new sanitation units and renovating existing sanitation to make all functional sanitation facilities operational by end of 2018 in local neighborhood community. [341 schools in 251 villages in Ramanagar district in Karnataka]

All CSR intervention programmes of TKM revolves around the following model focussing on measurable outcome, long term sustainability and benefits to local community creating a substantial impact on social change drive.

TKM constructed more than 600 girl child sanitation units in Ramnagara [Karnataka], Varanasi [UP] Vaishali [Bihar] and BBMP limits of Bangalore. We believe it is not only important to provide the sanitation facility but maintenance of the facility and awareness on the usage and benefit of such units has to be understood. Hence, TKM launched the programme focussing on the maintenance of the units, sanitation benefits on the health of an individuals and hygiene practices, called ABCD [A Behavioural Change Demonstration]. TKM has developed a unique intervention model addressing the children, as children are believed to be the change agent and thereby motivating the children to have such units back at home and make the hygiene practices a habit by all.

ABCD Concept on Behavior change:
TKM believes that providing the physical infrastructure is not only the solution to the problem but maintenance of the facility, changing the mindset in overruling the age old practices, bringing the behavioural change in the community to have good hygiene practices have to go hand in hand to get the success in the project

Output: Nearly 762 girl child sanitation units have been constructed till date and 42,059 school children have been benefitted by infrastructure support and ABCD programme.

Outcome: Nearly 1340 in 2016-17 & 2553 in 2017-18, individual household units constructed and 74 villages were declared 100% sanitation

Impact: Under ABCD programme, the awareness has reached out 132,598 members aiming to create healthier local community

Certification and endorsement by the local gram Panchayat [Local governing body] on the success of the project at schools and in the community
