The Environmental Education for Teenagers: WildView Taiwan Festival Tours

Currently, over 10% of elementary schools in Taoyuan have participated in the festival, involving over 7,000 students across all districts around Taoyuan. Over 20% of the staff in Auden have taken part in this CSR program.

INTRODUCTION

Everyone has a responsibility towards environmental protection and wild animal and habitat preservation. Auden Techno Corp. believes that environmental education is important for elementary school students who will later influence people to do their part towards the cause. Hence, Auden is cooperating with WildView Taiwan Nature Communication Society to hold the WildView Taiwan Film Festival Tours.

By watching and deliberating on the efforts of films which have been nominated for the Wildscreen Festival, the students will gain better knowledge of issues regarding environmental protection not only in Taiwan but in other countries. The CSR activities also help to bridge the urban and rural as well as international divide in environmental education. The Festival Tours have been held 23 times up till the end of 2015. To date, Auden has participated 48 times involving students from elementary schools in Taoyuan City.

FRAMEWORK AND STRATEGY

Auden is a pioneer antenna design company in Taiwan. Antenna is an indispensable component for wireless communication. Auden uses this leverage to reach out to the people, especially students on their responsibility towards environmental protection which is in line with the objectives of the WildView Taiwan Film Festival. Initially, Auden was the only corporate sponsor of the WildView Taiwan Nature Communication Society which introduced the Wildscreen Festival. Over the years, the Taoyuan city government has sought the cooperation of Auden to distribute application forms for the festival to all elementary schools in Taoyuan. Under this initiative, Auden’s employees will hold WildView Taiwan Film Festival Tours once the applications have been received. The Festival Tours includes 3 parts:
  • Introduction of today’s wildlife films;
  • Watching the films;
  • FAQ and concept discussion on environmental protection in the films. After the festival Auden will provide postcards for the students to write down their thoughts to encourage more people to contribute towards the cause.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT

The CSR initiative started in September, 2015. Auden is the first company to hold a WildView Taiwan Film Festival Tour in the elementary schools. By the end of 2015, 3.8 thousand people have attended the festival held by Auden, including 20 elementary schools and 3 junior high schools. Currently, over 10% of elementary schools in Taoyuan have participated in the festival, involving over 7,000 students across all districts around Taoyuan. Over 20% of the staff in Auden have taken part in this CSR program. This is equivalent to 450 service hours. Auden believes this is an important sacrifice as the company has received positive feedbacks from all sectors, including the students.

FUTURE DIRECTION

Auden’s CSR initiative is to propagate knowledge on environmental protection to the masses, especially elementary school students. As a result of such efforts, the WildView Taiwan Film Festival Tours will be held in Taoyuan and new wildlife films will be introduced every year. These activities will also be expanded to other cities and senior high schools. To reach out to adults, Auden will cooperate with the councilor of Taoyuan City and Rotary International to hold WildView Taiwan Film Festival in public areas. Auden will also target employees by organizing events such as beach clean-up and eco working family days.
