RHoldings’ current core activity is in property development and property management. Prior to Syed Aziz’s appointment, RHoldings’ roles were more towards property management and PMC works.

Syed Abdul Aziz Syed Hassan was born on 5 January 1963 in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. He is the fourth of seven siblings. Syed Aziz received his early primary education at Sekolah Rendah Clifford, Kuala Kangsar. He continued his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Sains Pulau Pinang where he completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in 1979. He graduated from Institute Technology Mara (currently UiTM) in 1983 and later graduated with a Degree in Business Administration from Ohio University in 1987. He is married to Ruzi Salina Mohamed Said and they have five children aged between 13 to 26 years.

Syed Aziz has more than 25 years working experience in property development, construction and related activities covering every aspect of property development from land acquisition, feasibility study, design development, construction and development up to the handing over of vacant possession.

Syed Aziz is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer of Rakyat Holdings Sdn Bhd (RHoldings), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank Rakyat, a position he has held since 2012. As the Group CEO, he is responsible for overseeing and managing all the nonbanking segments of the seven subsidiaries within RHoldings, with businesses ranging from property development, management and related activities, travel and tours, building facilities management, Islamic gold pawn business and general trading.

RHoldings’ current core activity is in property development, construction and property management. Prior to Syed Aziz’s appointment, RHoldings’ roles were more towards property management and PMC works. During his stewardship, RHoldings managed to obtain approval for three Development Orders for property development plans situated at Kajang and Petaling Jaya in Selangor and Alor Gajah in Melaka. All these projects are now ready to be launched with projected combined Gross Development Value of more than RM 2.5 Billion.

STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE

Syed Aziz’s immediate task upon joining RHoldings was to ensure the completion of the 1.8 million square feet 36-storey Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat (MKBR) and a 32-storey building that was delayed for almost four years with construction progress at only 40%. The MKBR was fully completed in late 2013 and ready for occupation in June 2014.

Syed Aziz started his career in the property sector in 1988 with Island & Peninsular Bhd (I&P) in the Credit Control Division, and later moved to various positions within the Company and the Group. His last appointment was Senior Marketing Manager before he left I&P in 2000. During his 13 years tenure in I&P, Syed Aziz was involved in various departments, starting from Credit Collection, Facility Management and then to Group Sales & Marketing, selling of I&P’s overall products nationwide, especially in the Klang Valley and Penang.

After leaving I&P in 2000, Syed Aziz moved to Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB is an agency set up to manage the Rehabilitation Program for abandoned projects) as the Assistant General Manager, Marketing & Sales.

He was later offered to join PECD Bhd, a listed subsidiary under the PEREMBA Group as General Manager – Property Division. During his employment with PEREMBA he was extensively involved in international development projects especially in Iran, India and Sri Lanka. His international projects included the proposed development of a five-star resort time-sharing condominium in Norshar, Northern Iran, near the Caspian Sea, the first of its kind in Iran.
One of his signature project was the development of Precint 11, Putrajaya, a 1,046-acre mixed development township comprising residential, retail, industry and commercial having a total of 10,000 units of houses with total GDV of RM2.5b. Syed Aziz was directly involved in the overall conceptual planning and sales and product development of Precinct 11. The development of Precinct 11 was a success story for him and PECD, as it won two awards the FIABCI award 2003 for the Best Master Plan Category and the Best Master Plan for Township 2003 from the Institute of Planner.

yed Aziz left PECD in 2007 to join Zikay Group as the CEO of Property Development. At Zikay, he was responsible for the property development activities of the Group, from identifying land for acquisition and development purposes to project site planning, design and obtaining development orders, funding requirements and also project implementation. His last project before joining RHoldings in 2012 was the development planning and project implementation of a 40-floor high-end hotel and service suites at Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur with an estimated GDV of RM240m.

Having been in property industry for more than 25 years, Syed Aziz is very well versed in property related legal matters, both in the residential and commercial segments, strata tittles, land issues, funding requirements and also construction at sites.

  • Achieved four years consistent profit growth for the RHoldings Group at average 20% per year from 2012 to 2015, with the highest profits recorded in 2015.
  • Developed a high end condominium project in Teheran. This includes conducting a thorough study on market forces, demand and supply, purchaser profiles and preferences, strategies and practices to determine the most suitable products.
  • Overall conceptual planning, sales and product development for Precinct 11, Putrajaya, an award winning township with 1,046 acres land of mixed development with an estimated GDV of RM2.5b.
  • Committee member of Bumiputra Participation and Involvement in Penang initiated by the Acting Prime Minister.
