Dato’ Foo Chu Jong, the Founder and Group Managing Director of Prinsiptek Corporation Berhad (“PCB”), a firm believer of the philosophy “Together We Make It Happen”, is an active and hands-on Leader who oversees, directs and monitors the operation of the company by charting the vision and goals while filtering his wide knowledge of the industry to his staff.
Dato’ Foo started his career in the construction industry in the early eighties when he was exposed to the development of commercial buildings, condominiums, hotels and housing estates. Dato’ Foo has gained a vast experience and knowledge through his involvement in most of the civil and engineering works where he has secured and completed billions worth of contracts.
Under the leadership of Dato’ Foo, PCB was listed on the Second Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (“Bursa Securities”) in 2003 and subsequently transferred to the Main Board of Bursa Securities in 2005.
Originated from Sekinchan, Selangor, Dato’ Foo started out as a salesman for the sewing machines and home appliances in the early stages of his career carrying the brand name of “Singer”. His natural charm, fluency in Bahasa Malaysia, humility and honesty made him a top salesman for the company. Most importantly, the job also brought him into contact with many civil servants in Jabatan Kerja Raya and other Government agencies. Years of liaison with the government bodies gradually built up his business network. Dato’ Foo kept his ear open to any opportunities that arise. His first breakthrough came when one of his customers told him about the Government project tenders to supply electrical equipment to various Government agencies. Dato’ Foo quit his job with “Singer” and concentrated to tender for the projects as the supplier to these agencies.
Dato’ Foo later teamed up with a Bumiputra business partner and started bidding for small-scale projects valued below RM 500, 000. One of the biggest breakthroughs came when the company he formed with his business partner got the tender to build a mosque in Kuala Selangor, Selangor.
With integrity and hard work, coupled with the financial support from the bank for the various projects he successfully tendered in Sekinchan, Selangor, Dato’ Foo slowly built up his reputation in the construction sector and started to grow his business to cater for the larger value projects.
With Dato Foo’s strong business acumen, tenacious work ethic and ability to spot the gaps in the market, he has always led Prinsiptek Group to the next height of success. He has made an effort to put in place a proper planning and system for the company.
A strict quality control system has also been implemented enabling Prinsiptek (M) to be certified for the following quality recognisation: ISO 9001 : 2008, ISO 14001 : 2004, OHSAS 18001 : 2007, and MS 1722 : 2011.
Under his dedicated and hands-on management approach, he is able to lead the team members to spearhead the construction business to global market and venture into Bangkok, Thailand. Simultenously, he
has created a corporate identity in the international market and also elevated the company’s yardstick in term of quality and competitiveness to a higher stage.
With a total workforce of 160 employees, Prinsiptek Group registered a total revenue of RM422.60 million for the financial year ended 31 December 2013 as compared to RM266.59 million in the preceding financial year. There was a significant increase of revenue by 59% due to the consistent ongoing progress of the work carried out and the commencement of certain new projects during the financial year.
Being an entrepreneur himself, Dato’ Foo realizes that success does not come without great effort.
In year 2009, Dato’ Foo was conferred the “Promising Entrepreneurship Award” by the organizing committee of the Asia Pacific Entrepreneur awards. His zeal for great business never wavered and in 2011, he was awarded the “Fellow of Oxcell Award” by the Oxford Centre for Excellence, UK. Due to increasing market challenges, the higher standard of living and the demanding consumer behavior, Dato’ Foo has stressed the need to constantly innovate through better technology and systems in order to improve the productivity and achieve a better efficiency in terms of labour capacity and the overall operations. One of the distinguished corporate features of Dato’ Foo is his unique role as a “White Knight”, in which he has led Prinsiptek Group to successfully turned around a large number of abandoned construction projects in Selangor State. Dato’ Foo, now at the helm of Prinsiptek, remains actively involved in the day-to- day operations of the company.
