When Mr. Rai joined Unique, it was a small business with a humble turnover of INR Ten Crore. By 2007, Mr. Rai had innovated and created a model for success which led the Unique group towards a turnover of INR Hundred Crore. He was then made the Executive Director of the company and Unique now has a turnover of INR Three Hundred Crore. He is a man of his words and morals, he is a proficient public speaker, spiritually inclined humanitarian and most of all a very dedicated and respected Business man.
Unique has a diversified portfolio of business, most of which have been conceptualized and executed by Mr. Rahul Rai. Unique group started its journey with the distribution of Medical insurance cards, followed by life insurance to the suburban and rural masses. Now the Unique group is one of the largest distributor’s in its regions of business. Unique further diversified in to real Estate and development, where they have successfully delivered 3300 residential units at affordable pricing. Unique’s most recent venture – Hospitality is also a brain child of Mr. Rai and is targeted to be an asset heavy model with a very long term vision, spanning 2 decades. This business will propel Unique into much larger sphere of business and is expected to generate revenues of over INR Seven Thousand Crore by 2025.
In Early 2012, Unique Mercantile India Private Limited combined its visionaries with the strength of the largest hotel Group in the globe, Wyndham Worldwide. Under the effective leadership of Mr. Rahul Rai, the company successfully launched and established the renowned Ramada Resort and Spa in Udaipur, Rajasthan and launched Howard Johnson brand in India. As part of the agreement signed with Wyndham Hotel Group in 2012, Unique Global plans to launch 35 hotels and resorts across India, targeting metros, Tier II & III cities. The venture has witnessed the launch of world renowned Howard Johnson Brand in India. These hotels will target the cost conscious and business travelers in the metropolitan and other cities of India. Following the launch of Ramada Udaipur Resort and Spa the group has successfully launched the 1st Howard Johnson hotel in Hebbal Bengaluru.
Howard Johnson Bengaluru Hebbal, has bagged Best Metropolitan Hotel for the year 2016, Entrepreneurship award from Today’s Traveler, CEO & MD of the year 2016 from Times Ascent.

Mr. Rahul Rai shares a passion for uplifting the lesser-privileged section of the society by starting an NGO in Ahmedabad that will provide shelter, education and livelihood to the needy. In 1999, the central government had introduced foreign direct investment in insurance. Rahul instinctively knew that he had to come up with something different fast. He tied up with 30 hotels within India and 5 abroad, and launched what he describes as a “timeshare kind of thing”. Ironically Rahul admits that while it was never his intention to make this a main line of business, the response was so good that he ended up with over 2.5 crore customers between 2001 and 2006. As this business grew he faced overbooking problems and made losses as he purchased room inventory from the open market. This was when he was motivated to own hotels and provide luxurious accommodation at an affordable price to the discerning traveler.
