Mr. Praveen P Kadle is the Founding Managing Director and CEO of Tata Capital, a leading non-banking finance company (“NBFC”), and a member of its Board of Directors. Tata Capital, founded in 2007, is Tata’s foray into the financial services sector covering products and services ranging from retail to commercial lending, distribution and wealth management to investment banking and private equity. A subsidiary of Tata Sons Limited, the Company has an asset book of approximately USD 8 Bn and Private Equity Asset Under Management aggregating to USD 1 Bn.
Mr. Kadle has held various leadership positions at the Tata Group in the last 25 years. Prior to Tata Capital, he played a key role at Tata Motors, first as Vice President – Finance and later as the Executive Director – Finance & Corporate Affairs, transitioning the company from an Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer to a global auto maker. During his tenure at Tata Motors (1996-2007), Mr Kadle was a part of the senior leadership team that managed cross-border acquisitions like Daewoo Truck Company of South Korea, Incat Technologies and Jaguar-Land Rover. Mr. Kadle was instrumental in setting up and guiding the operations of Tata Technologies and TELCON (a Tata Motors – Hitachi JV) which have become market leaders in the engineering design space and the construction equipment business respectively in India.
Prior to Tata Motors, Mr. Kadle was the Chief Financial Officer of Tata’s Joint Venture with IBM in India.
Currently the Managing Director & CEO of Tata Capital, Mr. Kadle oversees the functioning of the Company and its subsidiaries. Under his leadership, Tata Capital has grown from strength to strength, with its book size witnessing a year on year growth of over 35%. Over the last nine years, the Company has set in place a strong foundation – a diverse range of financial services ranging from retail and commercial lending, distribution and wealth management to investment banking and private equity, a nationwide network, efficient systems and processes, a strong financial services brand, a capable team and a winning culture. Tata Capital, under his leadership is focused on leveraging Digital and data & analytics as a competitive advantage. The Company is focused on staying ahead of the technology curve and meeting the needs of the new-age, digitally savvy customers through advanced, personalized and customer-centric financial offerings and solutions.
The launch of Tata Capital Housing Finance in 2009, Tata Cleantech Capital Limited in partnership with IFC Washington in 2011 and the Leasing business in partnership with Century Tokyo Leasing Corporation, Japan in 2012 are few of the businesses launched under his leadership. The Tata Opportunities Fund, one of the five Tata Capital Private Equity Funds, was one of the largest funds raised by an India-focused vehicle in 2013, with commitments of USD 600 mn and has invested in marquee companies like Uber Inc.
Tata Capital has been conferred many accolades since its inception. The Company received the ‘Gallup Great Workplace Award’ in the year 2015 in recognition of its ability to create an engaged workplace culture to drive positive business outcomes; and the ‘Golden Peacock Award’ for best training practices. Tata Capital also has the distinction of being the 1st NBFC to reach the People Capability and Maturity Model (PCMM) Level 3 certification.
Tata Capital was adjudged one of the ‘Best BFSI Brands’ at Economic Times Best BFSI Brand Summit in 2016 and is the only company in India to have won the ‘Global EthicMark Award’ under the For-Profit category in 2016. The Company’s individual brand campaigns have won many awards including the New York Communicator Awards, the CMO Asia National Awards and the prestigious ABBYs.
Mr. Kadle is also a Board member on various Tata and non-Tata companies. As a key member, he contributes to many industry and economic bodies, both domestic and international, including a position on the Advisory Board of Japan’s Institute for Indian Economic Studies (IIES). Additionally, he is also actively involved with various Public Charitable institutions, notably as the Board Member and Honorary Treasurer of Child Rights and You (CRY).
Mr. Kadle was awarded the prestigious ‘Indian Business Leader of the Year 2015’ by Horasis – The Global Visions Community, an independent international organization. He is the recipient of many other awards, including ‘Best Performing CFO in the Auto & Auto Ancillaries sector for 2006’ in India by CNBC-TV18; ‘Best CFO of the year 2005’ in India by Business Today and ‘CFO of the year 2004’ by IMA. He was also inducted as a Founding member to the CFO Hall of Fame in India.
Mr. Kadle is an Honours graduate in Commerce and Accountancy from the University of Mumbai and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Cost and Works Accountants of India and Company Secretaries of India.
Outside of his professional interests, he is a classical music aficionado, a cricket enthusiast and an avid supporter of art and culture.
