‘Humble beginnings often go a long way’, stands absolutely true for Ashok Chaturvedi who has been in the grind having a tryst with obstinate struggles since the early eighties. He foresaw the potential of the flexible packaging industry when the others were clueless about it.

Ashok, the youngest among five siblings, grew up with a conviction that he will hit it big one day. His father, the Late Vasudev Chaturvedi, used to manage a printing press. Soon after earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Christ Church College, Kanpur (India), Ashok set out to fend for himself. Having worked for a few years, selling packaging material for a very renowned packaging company, he thought of setting up his own venture with little savings and a ‘never say die’ attitude. This was when he laid the foundation of his packaging business by producing small sachets for ‘paan masala’ and shampoos to make them affordable and well within the reach of a common man. This proved to be the big spark that ignited and revolutionized the way products were packaged.

Today, Ashok Chaturvedi’s business has proliferated into a flourishing Indian multinational conglomerate with a turnover in excess of 1-Billion-USD. Ashok is often quoted as the ‘Father of the flexible packaging industry in India’.

Ashok Chaturvedi is a visionary for his successes as a first-generation entrepreneur and founder of the Uflex Group. Learn as if there is no tomorrow. What you learn today should be better than what you learnt yesterday. What you learn and implement today will eventually shape your future. To stop learning is as good as to stop living

After having ruled the roost in the packaging industry for over three decades and innovatively packing solids, semi-solids, pastes, gels, viscous fluids, powders and granular materials, Uflex under the leadership of Ashok Chaturvedi, is in the process of setting up the first-of-its-kind state-of-the-art aseptic packaging plant at Sanand in Gujarat for packing liquids like dairy products, juices and other non-aerated energy drinks. With this plant becoming commercially operational in 2017, Uflex will complete the entire bouquet of product offering. The plant is being set up with a capex of INR 580 crore in the first phase. The liquid packaging project will employ around 250 people in its first phase. 90% of the output from this plant will cater to the domestic demand. As Ashok puts it, “The new aseptic packaging plant re-affirms Uflex’s commitment towards the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.” It is only from his unrelenting perseverance, passion, dedication and sincerity that the Group is set to bring enhanced packaging solutions that ensures the Group is well poised to double its revenue from the current 1 Billion USD in the next 4 to 5 years. Today Uflex Ltd, the flagship company of the Group, has evolved into India’s largest flexible packaging solutions company serving Fortune 100 companies worldwide.

His commitment to ‘Mother Nature’ reflects in his insatiable quest to innovate and manufacture eco-friendly packaging solutions. Uflex has undertaken many initiatives in this direction such as developing technology for recycling and re-processing packaging waste; development of packaging film made out of green and renewable sources among several others.

Ashok is passionate about the strength of people as a pillar of the Uflex business, and believes they have been pivotal to the success of the Group. He is revered for his constant emphasis on bettering the lives of people around him – be it employees, customers, business partners, shareholders or any other stakeholders. He is a firm believer that life is all about learning and unlearning. He often quotes “Learn as if there is no tomorrow. What you learn today should be better than what you learnt yesterday. What you learn and implement today will eventually shape your future. To stop learning is as good as to stop living”.

He is also a philanthropist: a loud voice in India standing tall in support of institutionalization of sports at the grass roots level by upholding the universal right of all children. Under his guidance, Uflex supports the “Sports for Growth” intervention for underprivileged children and youth of India with a special focus on girls and the differently-abled.
